I’ve loved animals all my life; I’ve always been a dog person. When I was a teenager, I had no idea how I could transition my love of dogs into a cause or career. I knew being a veterinarian was out of the question, because I could barely receive a shot, let alone give one. I knew about “the pound,” but we got our dogs from a neighbor who had puppies.
Today, there is a tremendous amount of information and direction for young people who love animals thanks to the Internet and social media. If you have a young person at home who has a love of animals, please share this post with them.
Pics for Pets encourages young people to go to their local animal shelter to take high quality pictures of pets waiting for their forever home with their camera phones. They can then share these images on Facebook, Instagram and other social networking sites. What’s amazing is what young people (I’ve seen a 3 year old take an edit a picture – wow) can do with their phones. They’re so creative with the tools they have and the apps made available to them.
What’s even better is that this project won’t cost them a dime, while it gives them a sense of “doing something.”
As part of this campaign, Do Something will be highlighting featured pets with amazing stories that are available for adoption. Here are a few that are available now…
