Every now and then someone asks me a question about being a dog mom, about my life with dogs, living with a cop, being a blogger and I thought it would be fun to answer those questions a couple times a month in the new feature: Fur Mom Confessions.
One question that I get a lot is “which dog is your favorite?” “which dog behaves the best?”
I love these questions, because I love every opportunity to talk about our dogs. But these aren’t easy questions.
Three dogs is a lot of work…
We adore our dogs. They’re a ton of work and there are days when I look at them and wish they were lazy and content to sleep at my feet. I only get that after a 2-3 mile walk on trails. Put a couple 5 pound weights on your ankles and you’ll come back and sleep on the floor too.
So first things first; 3 dogs is a lot of work. I don’t know how people who it who have 5 dogs, foster, and have kids. Jeez!
Which dog is your favorite?
I don’t have a favorite. Each one has a trait that I love about them.
Rodrigo is our first. We chose him 15 minutes after first seeing him. What I love about him is how happy he is when he’s running around. He prances around the yard absolutely enjoying the day. He prances like a horse when he sees me, bowing his head in excitement. And I love it when he cuddles up to me on the sofa.
Sydney was chosen for us. She was the only girl in their litter (she and Rodrigo are littermates) and I love that she’s a knows she’s the princess. She’s my baby, she can hear a can opening from miles away, and she taught Blue how to properly come in for a hug.
Blue is our puppy. When I saw a video of him on the Motley Zoo website, I knew that he was our third. My favorite thing about Blue is that he’s happy all the time and when he sees one of us, he does this sideways walk and wiggle to us while barking deeply, usually with a toy in his mouth. It’s hilarious and cute.
Which dog behaves the best?
I’d have to say Sydney. She’s the only one that I can walk leash free on walks, the other two need to go on a leash every now and then. Rodrigo and Blue are well behaved too, but it took more patience and consistency to train Rodrigo (he wanted to be in charge) and Blue is really easy to train and he’s finally understanding “paws on the floor.”
What are their favorite toys?
Kong makes the best toys for our dogs. Our dogs are strong chewers and only Kong toys hold up to their rough play. Plus it’s one of the few brands that you can find at most pet stores that’s also made in the US, which is important for our family due to the recall scares of the past few years.

LOL – if they come up with a training method that involves loads of hugging, petting, and baby talk – I’ll make loads of money!

I couldn’t imagine chosing a favorite. There are moments when one of my dogs isn’t a favorite, but that quickly changes, because usually it ends up being pretty hilarious.

Well, I have to admit that Jasmine is and always will be THE puppy. She is the dog of my life and will always be special above any other dog in the universe. Not my choice, it’s the way it is. I just really hope that I won’t ever love any dog THAT much. Really too much.
Hubby says that the way I love JD is “normal” and I will love all the future dogs “normally” too. That Jasmine is just something else, like first love sort of deal.
