I recently had the opportunity to speak at a blogging conference and met a few people who love dogs, but either they’re allergic or someone in their family is allergic.  That has got to be the biggest bummer in the world.   We fall in love with dogs in seconds, sometimes before we even meet the dog, and to give up that dog because we can’t stop sneezing or itching is heartbreaking.

So I thought I’d put together a list of 33 hypoallergenic dog breeds for dog lovers who are allergic to dogs.  This list isn’t exhaustive; if you just Google “hypoallergenic dogs” you’ll come up with many more.  I narrowed this list down to the dog breeds that I’ve heard of; I found that many of them are either Terrier breed or a Poodle mix.

  10. Chinese Creste

  12. Giant Schnauzer
  13. Havanese
  14. Irish Water Spaniel
  15. Kerry Blue Terrier
  16. Labradoodle
  17. Maltese
  18. Malti-Poo
  19. Miniature Poodle
  20. Miniature Schnauzer
  21. Portuguese Water Dog
  22. Schnoodle
  23. Shepadoodle
  24. Shih-Tzu
  25. Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
  26. Spanish Water Dog
  27. Standard Poodle
  28. Standard Schnauzer
  29. Tibetan Terrier

This list isn’t exhaustive; I just included the hypoallergenic dog breeds that I’ve heard of in the past.  All is not lost if you’re allergic to dogs.  With this list, you can definitely find your new best friend and fur kid who will throw a parade for you at the end of a long day.  It’s heaven.

    Cavachon is a GREAT dog for allergies… its a mixture of cavalier + bichon, not very well known but AWESOME!!! Plus, they Re super cuddly

      When we had Blue’s DNA test done, we learned about a breed that we’d never heard of before, Large Munsterlander. I’m just blown away by the number of dog breeds. A woman asked me to write this post and on my own I came up with Poodle and wasn’t sure if I was right. Cuddly dogs ROCK! We have 3 big ones :)
