Rodrigo has sensitive feet.  We discovered this the winter of 2012 when he would lick his paws obsessively after a walk in the snow.  We started limiting his play time in the snow and when we came in, we would rinse off his paws with luke warm water and then rub them down with Bag Balm.

What I learned is that this is important in the summer time too.  Fresh cut grass and salt water (at the beach) irritates Rodrigo’s paws too.  Again, we bring him in and rinse off his paws with luke warm water (we try to do this before the licking starts) and then he gets a little Bag Balm (not as much as during the winter).

Here’s a great video by Dr. Becker where she shares How to Cure Your Dog’s Itchy and Irritated Paws – I love her recommendation of a foot soak.  We’re lucky, because we have a walk in shower right off our mud/laundry room for our dogs.
