What’s Your Dream? | KickStarter Projects Dog Lovers Will Enjoy

I would love to do a KickStarter for my blog, but I can’t.  It’s against their rules; I checked.  But that didn’t stop me from checking out the people who are on KickStarter and similar sites that have a cool new pet product that we might or might not love!

At first, I was going to share all the cool (and not so cool) projects I found, but what’s cool about bashing someone trying to get off the ground?  It might be a little fun in a Gossip Girl kind of way, but since this is real life and not the CW, I decided to keep it nice and share the projects that caught my attention.

KickStarter – Halo Mini

“Mission: SAVE LIVES. HALO MINI is an illuminated collar for our best friends. BE SEEN, BE SAFE!” ~ Source: KickStarter

This isn’t an original idea, I know.  There are quite a few people out there who have a glow-in-the-dark dog collar.  But this one is better, because it’s better quality…

“What is HALO MINI?  HALO MINI is an ULTRA HIGH QUALITY illuminated pet collar. LED pet collars have been on the market for years, however, most of them are made using cheap nylon materials with LEDs that are just as bad. We have re-designed and created an ultra high quality illuminating collar using our custom patented illumination system. Just like our HALO BELT, each HALO MINI is designed to illuminate in bright neon colors. The purpose of the HALO MINI is to keep our loved ones safe when outside at night… looking awesome is a bonus!” ~ Source: KickStarter

Husky Collar, Halo Mini, KickStarter, Dog Collar, Glow in the Dark Dog Collar

Great for when we walk our dogs at night.

The reason this project is appealing to me is because once night falls, it’s night.  Have you ever been camping?  That’s what we get every night.  It’s very dark (except right outside the house) and we can see a sky full of stars.  Having three black dogs, a collar like this will help us keep track of them when we take them out for a walk (yes, sometimes we walk at night) or on a potty break.

What’s even cooler is that we can wear it too – across our body, around our waist – so all of us are lit up on the walk.

KickStarter – Super Pack: How Dogs Changed the 2012 Election

We all remember the the drama behind Mitt Romney and the dog he strapped to the hood of his car (in a carrier).  How many pet lovers didn’t vote for him, because of this misstep in dog care?

“This book isn’t about politics. It isn’t about candidates. It’s about telling the story of how the love of a nation for its pets, combined with the power of technology, changed the election. And it’s also about the pets, themselves.” ~ Source: KickStarter

This is appealing to me, because I find the power of the pet parents fascinating.  I go into every election with an open mind.  I’m not a Democrat, nor a Republican.  I vote for the candidate that I think best represents me.  Okay, stop laughing.  You know what I mean.  I stopped even considering Mitt Romney after the dog situation.  But others were against Obama, because of reports that he’d tasted dog when he was in another country.  Both actions are disgusting (in my opinion), but the Mitt Romney story took hold and caught fire.  Now we can learn how that happened.

And I have to say that my curiosity is peeked.  Do you think this will be a non-biased look at the impact dog lovers had on the campaign or anti – Mitt Romney book?

KickStarter – Zolo Neurotico in Canada: A Multimedia Guidebook/Travelogue

“We’re journeying across Canada in a 1984 diesel conversion van (her name is Vanny) to find the best places to visit with a small, slightly neurotic dog. Along the way we’ll document our trip on our website at using words, pictures, video, reviews and an original webcomic starring our pup Zolo as Zolo Neurotico, hero to neurotic dogs everywhere.

At the end of the trip, we’ll combine that collection with resources from around the Web including maps, links to other videos, reviews and stories that we found useful while researching our stops. All of this will become a multimedia e-book designed for smartphones and tablets that’s part travelogue, part guidebook. We find it easier to understand if we think of it as an app you might buy from the App Store’s Newsstand instead of as a standard black and white e-book meant for electronic readers that use e-ink technology (they can only do black and white).” ~ Source: KickStarter

What I LOVE about this one is that it hits on two of my buttons.  The dog lover is a Seattle-ite.  For those of you who don’t get the significance – I live in Marysville, WA, which is about 40 minutes north of Seattle.

And this is a dream of mine.  Not driving across Canada, but just taking off on a new adventure.  My dream, which I’m going to write about in more detail soon, is to become a full time blogger and use my blog to promote a positive campaign for dog rescue.  I love it when I see people reach a point where they say “F it” and then just go for it.

So what’s your dream?  If you could create a KickStarter project for anything under the sun (except winning the lottery, paying all my bills, etc) what would it be?

What’s your dream of dreams?

  1. Thanks for mentioning our Kickstarter project aimed at getting Zolo Neurotico across Canada! When you’re ready to make the jump to do yours and start promoting a positive campaign for dog rescue, we’re ready to help. After all, Zolo came to us from Taiwan via a great rescue and we’d never consider getting a pet any other way.

    • My absolute pleasure, Charlie! Best of luck. You’ve inspired me to get started creating some dreams of my own!!!

  2. Thank you for featuring our HALO MINI campaign on your website! We are definitely looking forward for more pets wearing our products and being seen and safe!

    • My absolute pleasure, Patrick! I love the idea. We live in a very rural area with three black dogs; although they don’t wear collars, I wouldn’t have trouble strapping them on for our night time walks. Plus it would be fun to see three halos running around in the dark – LOL

  3. Hi, so you said you wanted to do a Kickstarter for your blog but it was against the rules. Did you mean use the funds for a dog rescue campaign or do you have a product idea? LOVE Kickstarter so really enjoyed this post. I love all the techy things and design ideas. The glow collar is awesome!

    • When I was looking into Kickstarter – this was a while ago – you couldn’t use it to build a website or write a book. But today, I see that people are writing books so I think it depends on the type of book. I do want to write a book and have an idea, I just need to pull it together and create a video.

  4. Crowdfunding is such a great concept. I remember reading one where they were opening up a shelter for the street dogs of Bali – they met their goal! :)

    • That is so fantastic. I’m going to spend some time on Kickstarter this weekend to see if my idea for a project will pass for them. I’m pretty excited. I actually have 2 books in mind.

    • Wow! Thanks!!!

    • Best of luck, Jackie!!! That’s pretty exciting :)
