Keep the Tail Wagging is now in it’s 9th month of operation and going strong.  When I started, I wanted to be a positive voice in dog rescue and this took me down a road that I wasn’t prepared for when we met our Riley.  From there, I started becoming all too familiar with the realities of dog rescue and it became hard to be positive when my email box and Facebook news feed filled with stories and images of abused dogs.

Time to Reset and Refocus Keep the Tail Wagging

So I started setting boundaries.  Unfriending people and unliking pages that shared those terrible images and although I do promote dog rescue, I will no longer use Keep the Tail Wagging as a vehicle for dog rescue except to say and repeat the following…

With so many wonderful dogs who need a home, please be a hero and rescue a dog; please don’t buy dogs from a pet store  and if you’re interested in a specific breed, please contact the rescue group for that breed.  Buying from a reputable dog breeder is a choice, but I encourage everyone to consider rescue.

New Features of Keep the Tail Wagging

That being said, I’m excited to announce new weekly features of Keep the Tail Wagging.  This will help me keep on schedule and give you, my wonderful readers, something to look forward to each week.

MONDAY

Cats vs Dogs: This is a weekly feature that I started this summer that features our cats Jaffrey and Cosmo as they share their take on living with three Cattle Dog mix rescues.

Product Reviews and/or Giveaways:  When I come across a product that I love or that I find interesting, I’ll post an honest review for you.

TUESDAY

Training Tuesday: I’ll be publishing dog training tips from dog trainers I’ve met and sharing my own training successes and fails.

WEDNESDAY

Wellness Wednesday:  This day will be chalk full to topics about the health and wellness of our dogs including posts with ideas on bonding with our dogs and making them happy.

THURSDAY

I couldn’t come up with a clever name for Thursday, but this day will be a mixed bag (Mixed Bag Thursday?), containing dog care tips and product reviews.

FRIDAY

Foodie Friday: This day will be all about dog nutrition, dog food and dog food recipes.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

I’ll be hanging with my amazing boyfriend, our wonderful dogs, and patient cats.

CASH PRIZES

I don’t have the dough to fund cash prizes, but I found a site that offers me the ability to host cash prizes for readers.  Be sure to bookmark the page with the entry form for future cash prizes (the first one launched 9/22/2012).

Don’t worry if you miss a day, I’m currently working with the host of the Keep the Tail Wagging newsletter on creating a weekly newsletter that lists each day’s feature.  So if you haven’t done so already, be sure to sign up for the Keep the Tail Wagging newsletter.  It’s FREE and I don’t spam my subscribers with sales pitches.  My goal is to provide great information for dog lovers in a fun and upbeat way.

Do you also have a commenting policy, and if so, where is it? I’ve noticed that commenting seems to be turned off after a certain number of days from first publishing date of the article – is this to manage moderation time (a consideration that I can certainly relate to)? Love the pictures, btw, keep those coming! :D

I do NOT have a commenting policy and I think I shut down comments on older posts, because of a spammer and forgot to open them back up so THANK YOU so much for bringing this to my attention. Just opened them back up. Thanks for the compliment on the photography; I love it too.

It’s incredible to me how quickly you’ve been able to take this space and turn it into something so popular so quickly. That takes a lot of hard work! I look forward to seeing where it all goes in the future.

That top photo is adorable, by the way. :-)

      Thanks, Kristine!
It has been a lot of hard work and I’m having fun and doing a great job learning how to prioritize and not get stressed out. I wish I could take credit for the image, but I got it from Flickr through the plugin PhotoDropper. I loved the dog; so gorgeous. I spent this afternoon trying to capture something similar with our dogs, but they were too interested in chasing field mice. Another day.

I’m hoping that if people know what to look forward to, they’ll stick around and stop by more often; plus it makes life super easy for me :)
