When the puppies were smaller, I invented a game called “Give It To Mommy.”  What’s funny now is that if I turn to Rodrigo and say “Give It To Mommy” he’ll run to get a toy and Sydney will wait with excitement, because it’s tug-of-war / chase time.  We tug toys back and forth and then I chase them or they chase me.  It’s quite silly and it was so cute when they weighted about 25-30 pounds.

We’re still playing it at 70 pounds.  They’re stronger than me.  And they don’t get the concept of fetch and return.  Each game of fetch automatically morphs to a game of Give It To Mommy when I’m around.  Johan has better luck with them.

My advice to you is have fun with tug-of-war, but be sure to differentiate that at a young age from fetch and return.  I still think we can teach the dogs fetch so I found this video that I’m going to try out with the pups.
