The Fifth Paw is a handy little tool that helps gives people an extra hand (or paw) when walking their dogs. I was excited to give it a shot since most days you’ll find me walking three dogs.
How do I open this thing?
I’m not the type of read directions. Not sure why, I just don’t. So when I couldn’t intuitively open the Fifth Paw so my boyfriend helped me. He reads directions. Once I got it on the leash, it was a breeze to use and I could immediately see the value in the product.
Would I use this regularly?
Absolutely! Not because it’s unhandy, but because most of our walks are leash free. I tried walking three dogs on a leash on the Centennial Trail and it was a nightmare. Sydney is a great walker, stays by my side, so her leash gets the Fifth Paw. But Rodrigo and Blue are all over the place smelling every inch of the trail and it just became a circus routine of me trying to manage three dogs, pick up dog poop, and attach it to the Fifth Paw.
But when I walked one or two dogs, the Fifth Paw turned from a hindrance to an extra hand and I loved that I didn’t have to maneuver the leashes so that I could also hold a dog poop bag.
But I walk my dogs off leash
We walk our dogs off leash most days in a nearby field/park, but I kept the Fifth Paw on the leash and continued to use it. Although we have the dog poop down to a science (the dogs do their business off in the tall grass where no one walks), every now and then one of the dogs will go on the trail. Carrying a dog poop bag while walking with three dogs (off leash) isn’t a big deal, but I really found the Fifth Paw to be a nice tool, because it frees up my hands to hold the leashes, to dispense treats, to answer a call, and to manage my iPod.
The Fifth Paw Review
I’m a fan. I think it’s a simple tool that makes a dog walk a little easier on the walker. You can buy your Fifth Paw on Amazon.com and support Keep the Tail Wagging!
