Are you in to walking your dog in the rain?
We live in the Pacific Northwest. As I type this, the day is perfection. Just a touch muggy, a cool breeze every few minutes, and the sun is playing peek-a-boo with the clouds. I took the dogs for a long walk around the trails of Strawberry Fields and they’re sleeping. I love summer in the Pacific Northwest, because we get days like this.
In 4 months, today will be a fond memory as we’re trudging through Strawberry Fields, jumping over mud puddles, and coming home soaked to the knees. I don’t mind walking in the rain; in fact, I kind of like it. But not every day and with three Australian Cattle Dog mix pups at home, we don’t get to pass on walks on the lousy days. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was an Indoor Dog Park for the days when I just want to stay dry or warm or cool?
Solution to Not so Great Weather Days? The Zoom Room!
Today, I discovered The Zoom Room. The Zoom Room is a dog training center and canine social club specializing in dog agility. Founded in 2007 by expert dog trainer Jaime Van Wye, the Zoom Room offers dozens of classes teaching dog owners how to train their dogs, in addition to hosting events such as dog birthday parties, breed meet-up groups and fundraising events.
Zoom Room offers Open Gym & Private Gym Time
What excites me most about the Zoom Room is the Open Gym and the Private Gym packages offered to dog owners. The Open Gym where dog owners and dogs can escape the heat of hot days, avoid the the mud puddles of rainy days, and avoid the drama that we sometimes experience at the dog park, because not only can we schedule time at the gym with other dogs, we can also schedule private time just for our dogs.
Coming soon to Portland and Seattle
A Zoom Room facility is coming to Portland and Seattle in the next year and we can expect to seem them popping up around the country, because it’s a growing franchise that offers more than just dog training classes.
What I’m most excited to check out are the agility classes that are for people like me; people who just want to have fun with their dogs. But if a dog owner shows interest in competing, the trainers at Zoom Room will help you get there. Having three dogs from the herding breed, we’ve been thinking about agility class, but have been looking for something more casual. What the Zoom Room has to offer sounds next to perfect for our dogs.
Definitely check them out and bookmark them so that you can learn when they’ll be in your town! What a great alternative to walking your dog in the rain or the intense heat of summer.

Wow! I wish we had something like that in Kansas City. The Zoom Room would be a great alternative on super cold or disgustingly slushy winter days, too.

I know, Crystal!
Isn’t this cool? It’s so gorgeous in Washington right now, I’m going to be wishing for a place like this in November.

The Zoom Room sounds great I would love to have on here in Maryland. I think something like that would go over big here.

They’re building one in (or near) Seattle next year. It’s still too far away for me, but I’m hoping that they’ll either build a second one or someone else will build a smaller one

Dog training is very important for your dog as it will not only solve your dog’s behaviour problems, but sometime save the life of your dog too. The “lure and reward” method to teach your dog to sit works well. You’ll lure your dog into a sitting position, then immediately reward her. It’s a popular method because it’s effective, easy for you to do, and easy for your dog to learn.

So very true, Lawrence. We have three dogs, it’s important that they have great recall, great manners, and are well behaved, or we would be stuck at home, miserable.
What I love about the Zoom Room is that it offers dog training and an indoor environment for dogs to play and get exercise. For us, we prefer not to interact with too many dogs – why? because of the poor training of other dogs – The Zoom Room has moderators AND the option to just schedule a private play session.
Do you have one of these places in your area? If so, have you tried it out?
