As I’m writing this post, I’m trying to breath through a cloud of several colognes and perfumes competing with each other. I have hay fever, which is acting as a nice defense; but a stuffy nose can’t keep the smell of everyone’s morning routine from starting a lovely sinus headache. This line of thought made me want to ask people why they wear so much, but I know the answer. They don’t realize that they have too much on.
I stopped wearing perfume, because I didn’t like the fact that I may not realize that I’m wearing too much and I didn’t trust my coworkers or commute buddies let me know when I’ve over done it on the morning spritz. After I stopped wearing perfume, I started to wonder what was in perfume – what chemicals are soaking into my skin. And that lead me to think about the flea & tick spot treatment we apply to our dogs. Is it safe?
Did you know that using flea & tick spot treatment is said to shorten our dogs lives by 25%?
I recently read this stat and although I think most statistics are full of crap, the idea that our dogs will leave several years shorter due to these chemicals is unacceptable. My childhood dog, Jackson, lived less than 8 years, because we didn’t realize that we were poisoning him inside and out.
So I asked around and found several companies who create a non toxic flea & tick treatments for our dogs. A few have offered free samples for me to try and I hope to include some in future giveaways. This is supposed to be a banner year for fleas and non toxic flea & tick treatments would fly off the shelves if it were available – and guess what! they are available and affordable. I was excited to find treatments that didn’t require our dogs to ingest garlic, which our vet assures us isn’t safe.

I normally don’t use flea treatments on my cats since they are so dangerous. I normally just get rid of the fleas with dawn soap. I know it’s what they use to get oil off of animals coats when their has been an oil spill. It leaves their coats soft and for some reason kills the fleas better than other stuff.

That’s really interesting, Susan
I never heard of that before. We have loads of flea treatments that are non-toxic and I have a lot of reviews to do. I think we’re set for the summer

Yeah, I found it out accidentally watching a rescue show a few years back. It seems to work great and doesn’t bother my poor kitty.
