I love going to the dog park; our dogs love it even more. Off Leash dog parks are a great place to connect with other dog lovers, socialize your dog, and allow your dog to get some much needed exercise and play time.
Keep in mind that there is Dog Park Etiquette to adhere to and as with any public venue, you’re going to come across dogs that are more aggressive (due to poor training or just a bad day) and vehicle prowls if the parking lot is unmonitored.
1) Know your dog’s body language so that you know when they’re uncomfortable and you can move to a different area of the park or leave all together. When Rodrigo feels challenged, he rises to that challenge, making the dog park outing unfun for everyone. So I watch how he interacts with other dogs, I’m training him not to hump (he mounts for dominance, not for play) and if he is having a bad day, we leave.
2) Don’t leave anything valuable in your car and definitely don’t leave anything on your seat. Do you see the woman in the car over there, looking like she just arrived or is just leaving? Have you noticed that she doesn’t have a dog? She just watched you put your purse beneath your seat or your wallet in your glove compartment.
Be smart, be aware, be safe, and have fun!
